Larson’s Fine Furniture was begun by Dick and his wife Carol in February 2001. Dick has been building furniture for thirty years. In the summer of 2000 he retired from the practice and teaching of general surgery, to pursue furniture making on a full time basis, from Banner Elk in the mountains of western North Carolina.
His primary interests have evolved over the years, and now focus on blending woodcarving and wood sculpture with the traditional joinery of furniture making. Each piece is designed, crafted and finished by Dick. All of these designs utilize considerable handwork, both in the joinery, as well as the shaping of structural elements.
