We take a very personal approach to the design and creation of handcrafted furniture. Each piece represents an attempt to blend the beauty of naturally finished, figured hardwoods, with unique sculpture and hand-carving in timeless styles. We display and sell our furniture and carvings at theĀ Banner Elk Artist Gallery at the Historic Banner Elk School, Downtown Banner Elk, N.C

About

dick-and-carol
Larson’s Fine Furniture was begun by Dick and his wife Carol in February 2001. Dick has been building furniture for thirty years. In the summer of 2000 he retired from the practice and teaching of general surgery, to pursue furniture making on a full time basis, from Banner Elk in the mountains of western North Carolina.

His primary interests have evolved over the years, and now focus on blending woodcarving and wood sculpture with the traditional joinery of furniture making. Each piece is designed, crafted and finished by Dick. All of these designs utilize considerable handwork, both in the joinery, as well as the shaping of structural elements.

About our furniture

Most pieces are finished with eight coats of a Tung Oil based finish, hand-rubbed to emphasize the warm, natural beauty and grain of the select hardwoods, individually chosen for each one. Some of our highly figured woods have been reclaimed from the bottom of Lake Superior, providing extraordinary color and grain in these products of our virgin forests, 150-200 years old. It is our intention that each item we make will become an heirloom, to be enjoyed by the purchasers and their families for generations.
